Acura RL Exterior Review
Exterior - 7.3 (Good)
Reviewers agree that the 2007 Acura RL's exterior, redesigned in 2005, looks "sleek and sporty," as New Car Test Drive puts it. However, reviewers such as Auto Mall USA also have mixed feelings on overall styling, noting that the RL is "attractive if not interesting."
Reviewers agree that the RL's exterior "is designed to suggest abundant power," as Auto Mall USA describes it, but still retains "an elegance and air of luxury," in the words of About.com. The RL features a more powerful look than previous models, with a curved front end, chrome spears along the sides, oversized taillights, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Most exterior features are standard, but the Technology Package adds adaptive Xenon headlights (Active Front Lighting System). From there, buyers can also upgrade to the CMBS/PAX Package, which includes Michelin PAX run-flat tires and 18-inch wheels.
The major qualm reviewers have still seems to be the lack of bold styling cues. Car and Driver writes, "My only quibble is subjective: The RL's styling is merely inoffensive." The San Jose Mercury-News also sums up the general consensus, stating, "There's nothing garish or offensive here, but the overall effect is rather bland." The Chicago Tribune takes an even more critical stance, commenting, "While engineers focused on technological magic, designers snoozed. Styling remains 'understated' and borders on invisible."
