2007 Acura TL Safety Review [ 2008 ]
Acura TL Safety Review
Safety - 9.2 (Excellent)
The 2007 Acura TL is loaded with standard safety features, many of which are just optional on other cars. It also received excellent crash test scores from the federal government.
Accident Avoidance
Autosite says, "Safety is always an important goal of Acura engineers, and the revised 2007 Acura TL is loaded with goodies designed to keep you and your loved ones healthy." The TL comes with plenty of accident avoidance equipment, including an anti-lock braking system (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist, and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with traction control. In addition to a standard tire pressure monitoring system, a "Maintenance Minder" monitors operating conditions to indicate when maintenance is needed.
A rear view camera, standard on the Type-S, improves visibility and shows the area behind the car on the nav system's dashboard screen. Cars.com also reports, "Parallel parkers will appreciate the side mirrors, which can automatically tilt down when the car is in reverse."
Crash Protection
Crash protection features include dual-stage front air bags, front air bags with passenger-side Occupant Detection System, side curtain air bags, and three-point height-adjustable seat belts with load limiters and a front Automatic Tensioning System. The car also boasts impact absorption crumple zones in the front and rear, side-impact door beams, 5-mph bumpers in the front and rear, Pedestrian Impact Protection, a collapsible steering column, and safety glass. One of the only safety omissions is pointed out by Cars.com, whose reviewer notes "Adding active head restraints, which the company uses in other models, would likely improve the protection."
In government crash tests, the 2007 model receives the highest possible rating of five stars out of five for the driver and passenger in frontal crash tests. In side crash tests, the front seat gets four stars and the rear seat gets five. The TL gets a rollover rating of four stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives the 2007 TL its highest ratings all around, with scores of "good" for both frontal offset and side impact tests.
