Acura TSX Safety Review
Safety - 8.2 (Very Good)
"Consumers expect safety when purchasing a luxury vehicle," Autobytel says, noting that the "Acura TSX delivers." The federal government awarded the 2007 Acura TSX a perfect 5-star rating for all crash tests except for rear side impact, for which the TSX received 4 stars out of 5.
Accident Avoidance
The TSX comes standard with a vehicle stability assist system with traction control. The Auto Channel says the feature "keeps us from getting into trouble with overconfidence." Consumer Guide notes the TSX's "assured grip" and "minimal body lean." A tire-pressure monitoring system, also standard, informs the driver of potential problems with the tires. Safety-conscious drivers will also appreciate four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes and high-intensity headlights.
A safety feature that might be overlooked, the 284-degree sightlines on the TSX, helps to keep drivers safe. About.com says that good sightlines "are typical of Honda, or were until the arrival of America's oversized Accord. In a quick car like the TSX, it's a pleasure to be able to see more of the road and traffic."
Crash Protection
Passengers are well protected in a TSX if an accident happens. It comes standard with driver and front passenger frontal and side air bags, side curtain air bags, three-point seat belts at all seating positions, and height-adjustable front seat belts with load limiters and an automatic tensioning system. Less obvious but also reassuring safety features include impact-absorbing front and rear crumple zones, side-impact door beams, a collapsible steering column, and a breakaway inside rearview mirror.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the TSX its highest possible rating in frontal-offset crash testing and a rating of "Acceptable" in side-impact testing. The federal government awarded the TSX a perfect five-star rating for all crash tests except for rear side impact, for which the TSX received four stars out of five.
