The 2007 Buick Lucerne is a well-appointed and capable highway cruiser with a pleasing, classic look. Kelley Blue Book advises, "If you're a current or former Buick large sedan lover or have been away from roomy, comfy big American sedans for a while and would like a good reason to return, Lucerne is easily the best full-size Buick ever and one of the best full-size American cars of any brand." The Washington Post says the Lucerne "is a plush automobile. But it is not a motorized marshmallow in the manner of the big Buicks of old. Nor, for that matter, is it an effete car mimicking all things European but devoid of anything that defines its own soul."
The Detroit News judges Lucerne prices "a little steep for a domestic near-luxury sedan." Other reviewers side with Motor Week's view that "this is a lot of full size premium sedan for a very competitive price." Consumer Guide writes, "The well-appointed CXL V6 may be the most Lucerne for the money. However, the costlier but still reasonably priced CXS is tempting just for its better ride control, with V8 power an added bonus." IntelliChoice gives the Lucerne an average value rating based on an estimated total cost of ownership compared to other vehicles in its class.
The 2007 Buick Lucerne is available in three trims: the base CX, the CXL and the premium CXS. The CX is available only with the 3.8-liter V6, the CXS is available only with the 4.6-liter V8, and the CXL is available with either engine.
