2007 Buick Rainier Safety Review
Buick Rainier Safety Review
Safety - 7.3 (Good)
The 2007 Buick Rainier has most of the safety features of its in-class competitors, but receives some marginal-to-average scores in government crash tests. In frontal crash tests, it gets just three of five stars for driver's side protection, though it does get four of five for passenger-side protection. It does better in side crash tests, receiving five stars.
In rollover tests, the two-wheel drive Rainier earns just three of five stars, while the all-wheel drive model gets four of five stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety hasn't tested the Rainier since model year 2004, when it received a ranking of "marginal" -- second lowest on a four-point rating scale.
Accident Avoidance
The Rainier comes standard with anti-lock brakes, a one-year subscription to OnStar, and a tire-pressure-monitoring system. Also standard is StabiliTrak, which applies brakes and throttle when conditions are slippery. Edmunds reports, "When asked to make rapid directional changes during slalom testing, the rear end tends to feel skittish. Standard stability control will keep it on course in most situations, but still, this kind of behavior and seat-of-the-pants feeling does not instill confidence when faced with real-life emergency maneuvers."
Crash Protection
Front airbags are standard, and full-length curtain airbags are optional. Side airbags are not available.
