Cadillac CTS

Overall Score - 8.0 (Very Good)

The CTS delivers stylish American luxury, but can't match the refined interiors or sporty handling of others in its class. If you're in the market for an upscale midsize sedan, you should also consider the BMW 3-Series for better performance, or the Audi A4 for a nicer interior.

Most reviewers feel that the equipment level and performance of the 2007 Cadillac CTS make it a strong competitor, but not a winner, in its class. New Car Test Drive says, "This is the first smaller American luxury sedan in a long time that can play in the same league as BMW, Audi, Mercedes and Infiniti." Edmunds thinks it doesn't quite match class leaders in overall polish and driving fun, but adds "the 2007 Cadillac CTS's quick reflexes, powerful performance and spacious cabin make it a valid consideration in the luxury sport sedan segment."

Opinions are mixed on whether or not the Cadillac CTS is a value buy, though it's one of Consumer Guide's "Recommended" picks. While critics expect high prices for this level of sedan, and especially note the steep price of the CTS, Automotive.com sums up the general opinion that the Infiniti G35 is a "better value. But if for some reason you can't stand Infiniti, this Cadillac is definitely worth a cross-shopping against all those arrogantly-priced peers."

As for long-term value, Kelley Blue Book notes the CTS is improving, "but overall resale figures remain below those of competitors such as the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series, Infiniti G35, Lexus ES and Mercedes-Benz C-Class." Looking at the base price next to similar vehicles, Automotive.com says "The CTS may have its flaws, but since they're mostly in the details, how can you argue with a five-digit discount?" Still, IntelliChoice gives the 2007 CTS a value rating of "poor" (the lowest possible) for its predicted five-year total cost of ownership, compared to other vehicles in its class.

CTS Performance - 7.2 (Good)

Most reviewers agree that the 2007 Cadillac CTS offers good performance for its class, even if it's not quite as refined as some of its competitors. According to Edmunds, "The CTS is a true sport sedan, with a tightly controlled ride and sharp steering." continue

CTS Exterior - 8.0 (Very Good)

Reviewers are generally impressed with the exterior styling of the 2007 Cadillac CTS. The San Francisco Chronicle notes, "The sculpted hood, aggressive grille and chiseled exterior of the CTS make it stand out among the current crop of sporty, premium sedans on the market." continue

CTS Interior - 7.2 (Good)

Although reviewers agree that the 2007 Cadillac CTS's five-seat interior is very stylish, Edmunds points out the "cabin can't match class standouts such as the Audi A4 when it comes to sheer elegance and ambiance." But when it comes to comfort, New Car Test Drive notes there is "more interior room than most of its European competition." continue

CTS Safety - 7.6 (Good)

Reviewers are pleased with the safety features on the 2007 Cadillac CTS. Automobile Magazine says "Well equipped, the CTS is at the top of its class for bundled safety gear." Side-impact tests earned 4 stars for front passengers and a 5 for rear passengers. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the CTS a "Best Pick" for safety. continue
