Cadillac CTS Safety Review

Safety - 7.6 (Good)

Reviewers are pleased with the safety features on the 2007 Cadillac CTS. Automobile Magazine says "Well equipped, the CTS is at the top of its class for bundled safety gear." In government crash tests the 2007 CTS earned 4 out of 5 stars for driver and front-passenger protection in frontal crashes. Side-impact tests earned 4 stars for front passengers and a 5 for rear passengers. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the CTS "good" crash test ratings across the board and named the CTS a "Best Pick" for safety.

Accident Avoidance

Edmunds notes, "Virtually all of the latest safety features come standard on the CTS." That includes four-wheel antilock disc brakes with brake proportioning -- which balances the front and rear brakes -- and traction control (which, The Auto Channel notes, provided "perfect little chirps with no excessive wheel spin when shifting hard and accelerating at the max"). Electronic stability control is optional -- "an unfortunate omission," observes Cars.com, "given many CTS competitors include the technology as standard equipment."

Crash Protection

Standard on the 2007 Cadillac CTS are eight air bags: front, side-impact air bags for front and rear passengers, and curtain-style head protections air bags on each side. Many of these had been optional on previous models. The Auto Channel points out that "effective crumple zones have been engineered into the structure" of the platform. "In short," writes New Car Test Drive, "the CTS comes with the full complement of safety features expected in a modern luxury car."
