Cadillac STS Exterior Review

Exterior - 8.1 (Very Good)

The Cadillac STS was introduced in 2004, as a replacement to the Seville. It features a square-jaw front-end dominated by large chrome mesh intakes that allow it to take in air for the supercharger. Most reviewers are pleased with its design.

The Detroit News feels "the exterior lines of the standard STS are sharply chiseled, in the modern-day Cadillac design idiom first established by the CTS, albeit in a more subdued execution." They also note, however, a "wish list" which includes larger wheels and tires, and "a more tasteful and distinctive front end."

The Washington Post believes the STS "is made to dance. Its body is sleek vs. slick, chiseled yet sensuous, stunning without the slightest hint of being overdone -- purposeful." Overall, they say "its smart, sexy, hot -- very hot." New Car Test Drive feels the body's design "draw an almost box-like silhouette that somehow still looks aerodynamic." They continued by saying the backside "is vaguely reminiscent of the old Eldorado coupe" with vertical taillights bracketing a tall, squared-off trunk. The experts at Forbes are mixed on the vehicle's upper-door frames. They felt "thicker than on a typical sedan. This may add to the vehicle's structural integrity, but it cuts down a bit on upper visibility." About.com writes, "the STS V6 tries hard not to be an old dude's car -- but it is. That said, it's a hip old dude's car, one that combines tasteful luxury with bold style."
