The Colorado delivers a good-looking exterior and reassuring crash test scores, but can't match the performance, interior comfort, or overall refinement of others in its class. If you're in the market for a compact pickup, also consider the Toyota Tacoma.
Auto reviewers regard the 2007 Chevrolet Colorado as a stylish but unrefined pickup with a disappointing interior. The Detroit News sums up the consensus, writing, "In terms of its rugged exterior design theme, the perfectly named Colorado hits just the right note, but the sparse cabin leaves much room for improvement." The Colorado's proponents focus on its exterior. Kelley Blue Book says, "The little Colorado makes an attractive alternative for those whose truck use tends to be more recreational than occupational." The majority of reviewers don't overly praise or criticize the Colorado, finding it just adequate in most respects. The Arizona Republic calls it "a nice-looking, good-performing small pickup that could use some refinement."
The Colorado is available as a regular cab model, an extended cab, or as a crew cab. The regular and extended cab models come in three trim levels -- base, LS, and LT -- while the crew cab model is offered only with the LT trim package.
In a five-way competition, the Colorado placed last behind the Dodge Dakota, Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier and Honda Ridgeline. Car and Driver, which held the competition and judged the order of finish, concludes, "In the end, what really stung us was how little innovative thinking went into the Colorado." Edmunds finds, "The 2007 Chevrolet Colorado is a handsome truck that, on paper, looks competitive. But in reality, it lags far behind pickups from Dodge, Nissan and Toyota in terms of performance, passenger comfort and overall fit and finish."
IntelliChoice gives two-wheel drive versions of the Colorado a rating of "better than average" for its predicted five-year total cost of ownership, while four-wheel driver versions get a rating of "average," compared to others in its class. The exception is the crew cab, which gets a rating of "worse than average."
Colorado Performance - 7.0 (Good)
According to most reviewers, the 2007 Chevrolet Colorado is an able if unremarkable performer with passable power and unsurprising dynamics.
