Chevrolet Colorado Safety Review

Safety - 8.1 (Very Good)

The Chevrolet Colorado comes with safety features commensurate to those of its competitors. It performs well in government crash tests.

The Colorado earns 4 out of 5 stars for rollover resistance. The regular and extended cab models get 4 out of 5 stars for both driver and front passenger protection in front impact tests, while crew cab models earn 5 out of 5. The regular cab earns 4 out of 5 stars for front seat occupant protection in side impact crashes. The extended cab gets the same rating for front seat occupant protection, and a perfect 5 out of 5 stars for rear seat passenger protection in side impact crashes. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives it a rating of "good," the best possible, in frontal impacts.

Accident Avoidance

Anti-lock brakes come standard on the Colorado. On two-wheel drive models with automatic transmissions, traction control is available. Edmunds points out, "Stability control is not available."

Crash Protection

The Colorado comes standard with front air bags. Rail mounted side-curtain air bags are optional.
