2007 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx Safety Review
Chevrolet Malibu Maxx Safety Review
Safety - NA
Available data and reviewer opinion suggest the Maxx offers a safe ride. The Detroit News finds that it has "a nice complement of safety equipment." The Malibu Maxx scores well in crash tests from the government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The Fort Worth Star-Telegram points out, "For many of us who buy cars in this class, safety is the most important factor because we frequently have our little ones on board."
Accident Avoidance
Anti-lock brakes with traction control are standard on the Maxx. A standard driver information center helps drivers keep track of various vehicle functions through a radio display. These functions include an oil life monitor, the status of locks and various settings, and more.
Crash Protection
The Maxx received five out of five stars from the government's NHTSA in frontal crash tests. The IIHS awards it a rating of "good" -- the best possible rating -- for front and side impact tests. These good showings, asserts The Auto Channel, are partly due to "high-strength steel" that "forms a protective structure around the passenger cabin," which is "helped in the event of collision by front and rear crumple zones." They are also due to the Maxx's many air bags. Edmunds notes, "On the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx, the front air bags incorporate 'dual-stage' technology, meaning the force of deployment can vary according to the severity of the crash."
