Chevrolet Malibu Exterior Review

Exterior - 6.1 (Mediocre)

Reviewers generally find the Malibu's exterior styling unremarkable. Car and Driver says the styling "can be described as 'uninspired' or 'clean and simple.' Either way, it's not a head turner."

Kelley Blue Book expresses a similar sentiment, adding, "Though handsome, the Malibu's exterior sheet metal holds nothing earthshaking."

The 2007 Malibu gets a slight visual freshening on the outside. Cars.com explains, "The car features a chrome front bar and a gold bow tie emblem. Other badging was eliminated for a cleaner appearance." The appearance doesn't prevent New Car Test Drive from declaring, "Where the Malibu needs work is in the appearance department."

There is little difference between trim levels except for the SS, which gets a few sporty tweaks. These, according to Edmunds, include "a tasteful rear spoiler, a unique grille treatment, dual exhaust outlets and a lower body kit that gives the car a slightly more aggressive stance."

U.S. News reviewer Rick Newman is gentler, remarking, "The Malibu's styling is halfway between sleek and boxy, giving it a please-everybody kind of anonymity. The good news for Chevrolet is that most other mass-market sedans are pretty bland too." The closest thing to an outright compliment comes from the Washington Post, which writes, "Exterior styling is mostly linear, with subtle curves in the front and rear body panels. The look is conservative but sophisticated."
