Chevrolet Monte Carlo
Overall Score - 6.2 (Mediocre)
The Monte Carlo delivers decent fuel economy, a comfortable and spacious back seat, and muscle-car styling, but it can't match the sporty handling and more modern safety features of others in its class. The V8 Monte Carlo SS trim-level is quick, but front-wheel drive limits its potential.
Although the 2007 Chevy Monte Carlo is stylish, comfortable, and delivers respectable gas mileage, there are other vehicles within its class and price-range that offer better sports-performance and more safety features. According to Edmunds, "The Chevrolet Monte Carlo traces its roots back several decades to the height of the muscle car era, when Chevy sought to entice customers with a sporty, upscale rear-drive V8 coupe that provided a balance of performance and comfort in a stylish package." While the Monte Carlo still offers adequate -- and often times notable -- performance, unfortunately reviewers think this generation front-wheel drive Monte Carlo can't recapture its muscle car past.
Nevertheless, reviewers agree the 2007 Monte Carlo is a pretty good value. "Overall, this Chevy Monte Carlo is a spacious sport coupe that offers buyers a reasonably good comfort/performance trade-off for a relatively low sticker price," says Edmunds. IntelliChoice gives the Monte Carlo a rating of "average" for its predicted five-year total cost of ownership, compared to other vehicles in its class.
Monte Carlo Performance - 6.5 (Mediocre)
The 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo is praised for its respectable engine power, decent fuel economy, and overall smooth handling. Nevertheless, a bit of torque steer (where the car pulls to the side under hard acceleration) coupled with a front-wheel drive design draws doubt over its true performance capabilities. "If you are looking for a performance coupe that really lets you get involved with the drive, the Monte Carlo may be too tame for you," says Kelley Blue Book. continue

Monte Carlo Interior - 5.8 (Mediocre)
The Monte Carlo's interior cabin is praised for its comfortable rear-seat and long list of standard features. However, limited cargo space prevents it from being ideal. Consumer Guide states it's "trading passenger space and cargo room for a sporty profile." continue
Monte Carlo Safety - 8.9 (Very Good)
The Monte Carlo's safety features are basic and the car receives good scores in government crash tests. However, the federal government also yields a safety concern for the car in side impact crashes. continue
