Chevrolet Monte Carlo Safety Review

Safety - 8.9 (Very Good)

The Monte Carlo's safety features are basic and the car receives good scores in government crash tests. However, the federal government also yields a safety concern for the car in side impact crashes.

While government crash test ratings provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration award it a perfect score of 5 stars for frontal crash protection, front seat side-impact crash tests yield a "safety concern" with only 3-of-5 stars. Even so, the government awards the 2007 Monte Carlo a rating of 4-of-5 stars for both rear seat side-impact crash tests and rollover. A number of reviewers, such as Consumer Guide, note that "decent visibility [is] compromised slightly by [its] thick rear pillars." The Monte Carlo also lacks a number of safety features and technologies appearing in cars in its class - most notably, Dynamic Vehicle Control.

Accident Avoidance

Every 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo comes outfitted with remote keyless entry and a PASS-Key III Plus theft-deterrent system with code-encrypted technology. While ABS, Traction Control, and Corner Break Control come standard on the LT and SS, they are only available as options for the LS.

Crash Protection

The Monte Carlo is equipped with dual-stage driver and front passenger air bags, as well as a Passenger Sensing System. Front seat-mounted side-impact air bags are optional. Moreover, LATCH (Lower Anchors and Top Tethers for CHildren) for child safety seats, and a one-year subscription to OnStar's Safe & Sound Plan are included.
