Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Overall Score - 9.0 (Excellent)
The Silverado 1500 delivers one of the best combinations of no-nonsense performance, responsive handling and exterior styling in its class. It's available in a wide array of trims, engines and features for optimal customization.
The 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, most reviewers agree, is a good-looking truck that balances ruggedness and refinement, and offers a high degree of customization through a long list of engines, trim levels, bed lengths, suspension configurations and options. It has been completely redesigned for 2007. The result, says Edmunds, is that "there are few aspects of this full-size truck that aren't class-competitive, if not class-leading." Autobytel counsels, "Chevy truck fans, take a minute to thank Ford, Dodge, Nissan, and yes, even Toyota," and adds, "If not for those brands, and more specifically the competition they bring to the table, we might never have seen a truck as impressive as the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado." Car and Driver suggests, "Let's just agree that a perfect truck is hard to find, and we'll drive the Silverado till we find it."
Already, the redesigned Silverado 1500 has won a number of awards. Car and Driver names it "Best Pickup," while Motor Trend names it "Truck of the Year." It is a Consumer Guide "Recommended Pick" and a Motor Week "Driver's Choice." The Orlando Sentinel decides, "Dollar for dollar, the new Silverado and Sierra can match any full-sized truck on the market," while the Detroit Free Press asserts, "You shouldn't buy any new pickup before taking" the Silverado 1500 "for a test drive."
The Silverado 1500 is available with two-wheel or four-wheel drive; with a short, standard or long bed; with a regular, crew or extended cab, and in Work Truck, LT and LTZ trim levels. The Silverado shares a platform and many components with the GMC Sierra. IntelliChoice gives the various models value ratings ranging from "Worse Than Average" to "Excellent" based on total cost of ownership compared to others in its class, with most Silverado models earning "Average" or "Better Than Average" ratings.
