2007 Chrysler Aspen [ 2008 ]
Chrysler Aspen
Overall Score - 7.7 (Good)
The 2007 Chrysler Aspen is a large, safety-enhanced SUV at an affordable price, but it falls short of competitors' interior space and driving performance.
Reviewers generally agree that the 2007 Chrysler Aspen is a fair entry in the affordable large SUV market, but in a class with more established and better performing competitors, the Aspen is an also-ran. New Car Test Drive says the Aspen "is a competent full-size SUV that offers the hauling and towing capability of a truck. In snapshot comparisons with the competition, the Expedition feels roomier, the Tahoe/Yukon rides and handles better, the Armada feels, and is, heavier, and the Sequoia feels better put together." Kelley Blue Book, taking a kinder stance, writes, "The segment for large sport utility vehicles, while shrinking, is still substantial, and Chrysler has, up to now, had no player in this market. The Durango-based Aspen is an elegant addition to the large SUV landscape, even if that landscape is eroding."
Compared to other SUVs in its class, the Aspen is highly affordable, though ownership costs can add up over time. MSN writes, "With a starting manufacturer's suggested retail price of more than $30,000, the Aspen has a lower starting price than competitors like the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon and 2007 Toyota Sequoia." And the Cars.com auto writer adds that "given its bargain price, comfortable interior and upscale styling, I think it's a compelling alternative to some of the more everyday models out there." However, IntelliChoice gives the 2007 Chrysler Aspen a value rating of "poor" for its predicted five-year total cost of ownership, compared to other vehicles in its class.
Aspen Performance - 7.1 (Good)
The 2007 Chrysler Aspen is a capable, but not fantastic performer, according to most reviews. Despite some shortcomings, clever engineering helps the Aspen get excellent fuel economy, even from the larger, optional engine. Kelley Blue Book says, "Ironically, the bigger engine provides not only more power but also better fuel economy." continue
Aspen Exterior - 7.5 (Good)
Reviewers say the 2007 Chrysler Aspen takes macho styling cues from the Dodge Durango, but many feel the styling still falls flat. Car and Driver reports that the Aspen was "clearly conceived to quell the chorus of Chrysler dealers that have grown tired of losing customers in search of something more macho than the limp-wristed Pacifica." continue
Aspen Interior - 8.1 (Very Good)
The 2007 Chrysler Aspen's five-seat (eight-seat-optional) interior receives mixed reviews. Edmunds reports "ergonomics and storage space are excellent, while seating quarters are ample in the first row, average in the third row and surprisingly cramped in the second row." continue
Aspen Safety - NA
The 2007 Chrysler Aspen receives a five-star rating in frontal crash tests conducted by the federal government. All Aspens also come with side curtain air bags and electronic stability control. continue
