2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser Safety Review [ 2008 ]
Chrysler PT Cruiser Safety Review
Safety - 7.8 (Good)
Full Review (includes above abstract)The 2007 PT Cruiser has driver and passenger frontal air bags, but additional air bags as well as anti-lock brakes are extra-cost options. The Cruiser receives good but not perfect ratings in government crash tests.
Government crash tests give the PT Cruiser 4 out of 5 stars in frontal crash tests for both driver and front passenger protection. With the optional side air bags, the Cruiser receives 4 out of 5 stars for front seat occupant protection in side crash tests and 5 out of 5 stars for rear seat passenger protection in side crash tests. Models without side air bags have not received side crash test ratings.
Accident Avoidance
There are almost no accident avoidance features on the base model PT Cruiser. The GT has anti-lock brakes, which are optional on other models.
Crash Protection
The PT Cruiser has multistage frontal air bags for the driver and front-seat passenger. Side air bags are standard on the GT, optional on other models. Head air bags and child safety seats are not available. "Chrysler's lack of side air bag protection for rear-seat passengers really bugs me," says a reviewer for the Detroit News. "I hate to be a nag, but I can't think of a good excuse for that glaring oversight."
