Chrysler Pacifica Safety Review

Safety - 8.6 (Very Good)

The 2007 Chrysler Pacifica earns a very good safety score based on its spotless ratings in crash tests. The Detroit News praises, "Chrysler also pays better attention to safety features on this go-round with the Pacifica, making side-curtain air bags that protect all outboard passengers a standard feature, along with electronic stability control."

The Pacifica is backed up by its stellar crash test results, which are virtually perfect in every category. The federal government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the 2007 model perfect 5-star ratings across the board -- for all seating positions in both frontal and side crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) also gives the 2007 model a perfect rating of "Good" in frontal-offset tests. IIHS has not conducted side-impact tests for the Pacifica.

Accident Avoidance

Edmunds confirms that "The Pacifica has a proven safety record, thanks to standard safety features." In the accident avoidance category, these features include electronic stability control (new for 2007), anti-lock brakes with brake assist, and a tire pressure monitor. A rear backup camera, optional on the Touring and Limited models, uses the speedometer inset LCD display. Reviewers highly recommend the camera because the Pacifica's rear visibility is "decidedly limited," according to WTIC News.

Crash Protection

In the event that a crash does occur, passengers are protected. The 2007 Pacifica now includes standard all-row side curtain air bags and driver-side knee air bags. Previously, supplemental side curtain air bags were an option at extra cost on most trim levels.
