2007 Chrysler Town & Country Safety Review [ 2008 ]
Chrysler Town & Country Safety Review
Safety - 7.3 (Good)
The 2007 Chrysler Town & Country performs well in government crash tests and is equipped with a relatively competitive list of safety features. However, it lacks stability control, an option available on Toyota and Honda minivans.
In 2007 crash tests of the Town & Country, the government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the minivan 5 out of 5 stars for both driver and front passenger protection in frontal impacts. The Town & Country scored a 4 out of 5 stars for front passengers and a 5 out of 5 stars for rear passengers in side impact crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the Town & Country a rating of "Acceptable" (its second-highest rating) for both front offset and side impact crashes when the Town & Country is equipped with side curtain air bags for all three rows. Without those air bags, the rating drops to "Poor."
Accident Avoidance
The T&C offers anti-lock brakes as standard on LX, Touring and Limited versions, and as an option on the base vehicle. Traction control is only available on the Touring and Limited models.
Even though many competitors offer it, stability control, which helps a driver maintain control of a vehicle at all times, is not available at all in the Town & Country. About.com notes that this is "fast becoming a must-have safety feature for all vehicles."
Crash Protection
Front air bags and a special driver's side knee protection air bag are all standard in the front seat on all T&C models. A side curtain air bag capable of protecting all three rows is standard on Limited models and available on all other models.
