Dodge Charger Exterior Review

Exterior - 8.8 (Very Good)

The 2007 Charger lives up to the aggressive styling of the 1960's original. While some don't like the rear of the 2007 vehicle, Edmunds sums up the majority view with, "The styling is both clean and aggressive, its stance is beefy, and those looking for a sedan with serious attitude should like it."

The Charger has three exterior styles: The first covers the SE, SXT, and R/T trims; the second two come with the limited-edition Daytona R/T, which offers front fascia and rear decklid spoilers; and the SRT-8, which offers functional hood scoop, front fascia, and rear decklid spoilers.

Reviewers agree that the Charger's bold exterior matches its muscle car heritage and powerful performance. MSN notes, "The recognizable Dodge grille on the front of the Charger angles forward, giving the appearance of forward motion even when the car is standing still." Yet, the same publication observes, "The sloped roof combined with the bulging rear quarter panels help Charger pull off the coupe styling."

Noting those rear panels, some reviewers, while impressed overall with the exterior, are let down by the rear styling. "The view from the rear is the least interesting of them all," says Kelley Blue Book. And Edmunds agrees, writing it "looks plain from behind."

The Charger's exterior styling sets it apart from similar sedans. Observes Kelley Blue Book, "Up front, a gaping crosshair grill flanked by scowling headlights decisively distance the Charger from the more staid large-sedan entries from Toyota, Ford and Buick." And About.com says, "The whole look of the Charger is effective, memorable, and polarizing. Some love it; some don't. But at least it doesn't look like every other sedan in the segment."
