Dodge Durango

Overall Score - 8.3 (Very Good)

The  Durango delivers a big, rugged SUV for hauling and towing that handles well for its size and delivers exceptional cargo space and seating for up to eight. However, the base V6 engine could use more power, and styling, both inside and out, is seen as dated.

On balance, reviewers say the 2007 Dodge Durango is a practical SUV with a smooth ride that's good for hauling around large families or cargo. "It's tough enough to handle heavy duty," says Car and Driver, and "civilized enough for all-around use." Edmunds captures the feelings of most reviewers when it says that the Durango is "worth consideration if you're seeking a strong tow vehicle that can seat up to eight people."

The Durango, even though freshened modestly for 2007, is based on an almost 4-year old design that shows its age both inside and outside of the vehicle. While the base V6 Durango is almost universally seen as weak and underpowered, both V8 engine options generate mostly favorable test drives. Braking and handling are very competitive, however, Edmunds notes that "if you're looking for a true premium SUV, you won't find it here."

However, in a Motor Trend comparison road test against the Nissan Armada, Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Expedition and the Toyota Sequoia, the Dodge Durango came in on top. The editors were admittedly taken aback, saying, "The winner of our big-'ute comparo surprised us."

Many reviewers argue that the Durango is a good value. Kelley Blue Book notes, "Although the Durango is as big as the Toyota Sequoia, Ford Expedition and Chevrolet Tahoe, it's priced at thousands less." New Car Test Drive adds, "It was value-priced last year, and with prices reduced and standard equipment added for 2007, it's a better bargain than ever." However, compared to other vehicles in its class, IntelliChoice gives the Durango a value rating of poor based on predicted cost of ownership over five years.

Durango Exterior - 5.2 (Mediocre)

The Durango is a big, bulky SUV that features a tough and rugged look, but is seen by most as suffering from dated styling. Kelley Blue Book calls it "one strikingly imposing vehicle that looks every bit as tough as it claims to be," but Automobile Magazine notes that the "big-rig look is a bit antisocial for some." continue

Durango Interior - 7.9 (Good)

Reviewers generally like the Durango's comfortable, modest interior and plentiful cargo space, but their overall praise is lukewarm. "Inside the cabin, you'll find clean lines," writes Edmunds, adding, however, "The Durango is no class leader when it comes to interior style." continue
