Dodge Grand Caravan Exterior Review
Exterior - 6.6 (Mediocre)
The Grand Caravan was last redesigned in 2005, but didn't follow the prevailing minivan design trends, say most reviewers. U.S. News' Rick Newman says, "Chrysler is sticking with the minivan look and feel," and adds, in agreement with most reviewers, "Let's just say the Grand Caravan has inner beauty."
The minivan looks of the Grand Caravan are all about maximizing utility, say most reviewers. Road and Track says "The new model is boxier to boost interior space and to provide [for] drop-down glass in the sliding doors." The Auto Channel argues that the focus on interior usability is intentional as "exterior styling is not the main point of a minivan. The interior is."
Still, not all reviewers ignored the exterior, and a few really like it. Kelley Blue Book says "the Grand Caravan has a smooth exterior that is slightly rounded and handsomely detailed with such features as flush side glass and Dodge's signature crossbar grille. It's a design that is decidedly sporty (as far as minivans go) and when outfitted with the 16-inch, five spoke alloy wheels, can look downright attractive." Cars.com adds, "Dodge really hit the mark with the new styling. It didn't go overboard trying to make it look like something other than a minivan yet its higher hood, squared off rear end and the most stealthy sliding side doors we've seen all combine for a presence that's not too far from what passes as a 'crossover' SUV nowadays."
