In government crash tests, the Edge receives great scores in both frontal impacts and side impacts. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety even selected it as a "Top Safety Pick" among midsize SUVs.
In government crash tests, the Edge received 5 out of 5 stars for the driver in frontal-impact crashes, and 4 out of 5 stars for the front passenger. Additionally, the Edge earned 5 out of 5 in side-impact tests and 4 out of 5 stars in rollover tests. Accident Avoidance
Ford's AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control has received a lot of positive attention from reviewers, who describe it as a device that attempts to prevent rollovers. As the Boston Globe explains, "I like to remind people that stability control systems have been shown in studies to cut the risk of getting into an accident by almost half." The Edge also comes with a 4-wheel disc antilock brake system.
Crash Protection
The Edge includes features such as seat belt pretensioners, dual-stage front air bags, the Safety CanopyTM System with rollover sensor and extended-duration side curtain air bags and side-impact air bags (seat-mounted).
