Ford F-150 Safety Review

Safety - NA

The Ford F-150 comes with the safety features expected of trucks in its class, but lacks side air bags. It receives good scores in government crash tests, earning 5 out of 5 stars for frontal crash protection and 4 out of 5 stars for rollover avoidance.

Kelley Blue Book points out one shortcoming of the F-150, writing, "Safety-conscious consumers won't care for the lack of side-impact and side-curtain airbags."

In government crash tests, the F-150 gets 5 of 5 stars for frontal impacts, and it receives 4 of 5 stars for rollover avoidance. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also gives the F-150 high marks for safety, awarding it a rating of "Good" (the best possible) in frontal crash tests.

Accident Avoidance

Anti-lock brakes are standard on the Ford F-150. According to Automotive.com, they're "smooth and responsive," and "start slowing the truck just a little way into the pedal travel." Also standard is a tire-pressure monitoring system. Traction control is available for V8 models, but not for models outfitted with the V6.

Crash Protection

While side air bags aren't available, the F-150 is equipped with dual frontal air bags that deploy according to passenger size and weight.
