New 2007 Honda Accord Safety Review [ 2009 , 2008 ]
Honda Accord Safety Review
Safety - 8.3 (Very Good)
Both the two-door and four-door Honda Accords receive high scores in government and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests of frontal and side-impact collisions.
Accident Avoidance
Anti-lock brakes are standard on all 2007 Honda Accords. The sedan's three lower trims receive power-assisted ventilated front-disc, rear-drum brakes, while the Accord EX and higher trims receive solid rear discs. Other safety features that vary according to trim are vehicle stability assist with traction control, brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution.
The 2007 Accord Coupe's LX base model has 11.1-inch front-disc brakes that are power-assisted and ventilated, whereas higher trims receive solid rear-disc brakes that are 10.2-inches.
Crash Protection
Kelley Blue Book says that "safety is a paramount part of Honda's design," when outlining the Accord's air-bag setup. Regardless of trim, the coupes and sedans have dual-stage, dual-threshold front air bags, front side air bags and side-curtain air bags. Also included are side-impact door beams, driver's and front passenger's seat belts with automatic tensioning, and lower anchors and tethers for children (LATCH).
In government crash tests, the two-door Honda Accord received 5 stars out of 5 for both the driver and passenger in frontal crashes, 4 stars for the front seat, and 5 stars for the rear seat in side-crash protection. The four-door Accords receive 5 stars out of 5 for the driver and passenger in frontal crashes, but 4 out of 5 for both the front and rear seats in side crashes. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recognizes the 2007 Accord with a "good" rating, its highest, for both frontal offset and side impact tests.
