New 2007 Honda CR-V Safety Review [ 2009 , 2008 ]
Honda CR-V Safety Review
Safety - 9.8 (Excellent)
The 2007 Honda CR-V receives 5 out of 5 stars in all government crash tests ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the highest rating, "good," from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Additionally, IIHS chose the 2007 Honda CR-V as one of its 2007 "Top Safety Picks." Its rollover potential has not been tested this year.
When speaking of the safety of the vehicle, U.S. News' Rick Newman comments, "Many of the CR-V's best features, of course, are ones you can't see, like standard side-curtain air bags and tons of other safety gear."
Accident Avoidance
To prevent an accident from happening, all trims of the 2007 Honda CR-V come with anti-lock brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, vehicle stability assist with traction control, and brake assist. Some of the updates to the CR-V's design have either helped or hindered safety, reviewers report. For example, Cars.com was one of many to note that the thick rear pillars on the CR-V could "pose some visibility issues." On the other hand, several reviews also said that the new navigation system with a rearview camera is an asset for drivers. The Auto Channel writes, "More than once we've used that camera to save running over objects. If there's a child back there, it's priceless."
Crash Protection
If an accident were to occur, reviews highlight that the 2007 Honda CR-V would provide ample protection compared with its class. All trims of the CR-V come with three-point seat belts with automatic tensioning for the front seats. In terms of air bags, the CR-V has dual stage, dual threshold front air bags, front side air bags, and side curtain air bags with rollover sensors. Drivers and front passengers also receive active head restraints. Motor Week's review especially appreciates Honda's Advanced Compatibility Engineering, or ACE Body Structure, through which "the CR-V's frame channels much more front crash energy into the side structure, away from the occupants." The 2007 Honda CR-V also has side-impact door beams and the LATCH system.
