Honda Fit Safety Review

Safety - 8.3 (Very Good)

The 2007 Honda Fit does well in government and private crash tests, and is appreciated for providing plenty of safety features. Road and Track is just one of many to highlight the Fit's safety equipment as "exemplary."

Additionally, as Edmunds notes, "this safety doesn't cost anything on top of the Fit's base price: Front side air bags, side curtain air bags and ABS are all standard equipment, something the competition can't claim." The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the Fit 5 out of 5 stars in frontal crash tests, 5 out of 5 stars for the front seat in a side crash, and 3 out of 5 stars for the rear seats in side crashes. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives the Fit a "good" rating -- its highest score -- in both frontal-offset and side-impact tests.

Accident Avoidance

Reviewers agree the 2007 Honda Fit provides adequate means to help drivers avoid crashing. Included as standard on both the base model Fit and the Fit Sport are anti-lock brakes and electronic brakeforce distribution. Although some reviews note the Fit does not come standard with stability or traction control, TechnoRide's review says this is "less necessary on front-drive cars."

Crash Protection

The 2007 Honda Fit has three-point seat belts for all seats and front seat automatic tensioning. The back outboard seats have the LATCH system. Dual-stage, dual-threshold air bags and side air bags come in the front, with side curtain air bags also included.
