Hummer H2

Overall Score - 7.8 (Good)

The  H2 delivers stellar off-road performance and head-turning style but has dismal fuel economy, even for a large SUV.

Edmunds calls the H2 "an image vehicle, pure and simple." The 2007 Hummer H2 is a head-turning full-size SUV with available seating for six, acceptable on-road performance and off-road chops that are hard to match. According to MSN, it's "one of the best sport-utility vehicles ever sold by General Motors." Still, most reviewers agree that other full-size SUVs offer more comfort and seating, as well as better fuel economy, at a lower price.

But it is the H2's style that continues to attract buyers. Kelley Blue Book says the 2007 Hummer H2 offers consumers a "capable off-road mini-tank with enough visual appeal to satisfy the most egregious attention hound." Edmunds sums it up by saying its "head-turning sheetmetal and imposing girth promise attention at every turn ... If it's true that he who has the most toys wins, the H2 should probably be counted twice."

The 2007 Hummer H2 is an expensive vehicle, even for its class. "Considering how large the H2 is on the outside, you're paying a lot more than you have to if you're looking for a practical people and things mover," says Forbes. High price tag aside, because of its poor fuel economy, the H2 represents a significant financial commitment, both at the dealership and on the road. IntelliChoice rates the 2007 Hummer H2 as an "Average" value based on predicted cost of ownership compared with others in its class.

The H2 is available as a four-door SUV and also as a SUT, which keeps all four doors but replaces the enclosed cargo area with a short truck bed.

H2 Performance - 7.9 (Good)

The 2007 Hummer H2 offers on-road performance that is on par with other full-size, truck-based SUVs, and off-road performance that has few equals. Edmunds test drivers find that, "Despite its penchant for mud bogs and boulder trails, the H2 still maintains a commendable demeanor on the open road." continue

H2 Exterior - 9.2 (Excellent)

The 2007 Hummer H2 has attention-getting looks. "For most people, the most important H2 attribute is its ability to draw a crowd," says Automobile Magazine, adding "on the street-cred scale, the macho truck scores a perfect ten." continue

H2 Interior - 6.9 (Mediocre)

Reviewers say the interior of the 2007 Hummer H2 it isn't as plush or roomy as some luxury buyers may expect in a $50,000 vehicle. "If you're looking for a big SUV that is comfortable, roomy and sophisticated, you'd be better served shopping the new Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon," suggests Kelley Blue Book. continue

H2 Safety - NA

The 2007 Hummer H2 has not been rated in government crash tests. Though its size, rugged construction and weight do give it an advantage in crashes (often at the expense of other vehicles), the H2 lacks certain safety features that are standard in other SUVs in its class. continue

H2 Reliability - 6.0 (Mediocre)
