Hummer H3 Exterior Review

Exterior - 7.9 (Good)

Although smaller, the 2007 Hummer H3 has the same military-transport appearance as earlier models -- a look that reviewers feel will satisfy Hummer fans. Kelley Blue Book says the H3 "doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is: A capable, traditional Sport Utility Vehicle that looks the part of a serious off-road machine."

Nobody would describe a Hummer as sleek and stylish, but there's no question that squared-off, military looks are part of its appeal. The Hummer H3, although smaller than its siblings, still has that look. Kelley Blue Book says that its "[d]imensions are more moderate than its brothers in arms, but the H3 exhibits the unabashedly boxy profile that Hummer fans praise and critics love to denounce."

The Washington Post gives the H3 a high "head-turning quotient" and finds that to be "[s]urprising. Even avowed SUV haters took time to eyeball this one. One of them grudgingly acknowledged that GM has a 'winner' in this model." U.S. News reviewer Rick Newman says that "[c]ompared with other full-size SUVs, the H3 is appealing. The distinctive Hummer styling is about as bold as it gets, rectangular and defiant in a world of slicked-back dandies." But he had a different experience than the reviewer for the Post: "Its hulking form makes a statement that's not all that fashionable anymore. Nobody stopped to admire the H3."
