New 2007 Hummer H3 Safety Review [ 2009 , 2008 ]
Hummer H3 Safety Review
Safety - 9.0 (Excellent)
The 2007 Hummer H3 receives nearly perfect scores in front and side crash tests conducted by the federal government. While useful safety equipment like traction control comes standard, side curtain airbags are just optional.
Accident Avoidance
If your interest is safety," says Essence, "especially in treacherous weather, the H3 is a smart option." The Hummer H3 has an unexceptional but effective set of accident avoidance features, including antilock brakes (ABS) with Dynamic Rear Proportioning, traction control and a tire pressure monitoring system.
Crash Protection
Standard crash protection features include dual front air bags with a passenger sensing system, which turns air bags off for unoccupied seats or a seat occupied by a smaller passenger, and a reinforced passenger compartment safety cage to protect occupants. Side air bag curtains are optional. Of the latter, New Car Test Drive says "we recommend them for the head protection they can provide to you and your passengers in the event of a side impact or rollover." A rollover protection system is also optional.
The 2007 Hummer H3 receives a perfect five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in frontal crash tests for the driver and four out of five stars for the passenger. It receives a perfect five stars for both driver and passenger for side crash tests. The H3 has not been rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
