Hyundai Accent Exterior Review

Exterior - 7.3 (Good)

Design updates in 2006 and 2007 did little to change perceptions that the 13-year-old Accent is less than eye-catching. Car.com writes that the Accent "offers a look that is neither inspiring nor offensive."

But the experts don't have lofty design expectations for the entry-level Hyundai, to begin with. To U.S. News' Rick Newman, Accent buyers should "be happy it's not ugly." For 2007, the Hyundai Accent adds a three-door hatchback to its lineup, so that it now comes in three trims, the GS, SE (hatchbacks) and GLS (four-door sedan).

The GS hatchback has a center high mount stop light and side market lights. Its outside mirror is black in color, but the front grille's color is now uniform with the rest of the Accent's body. For the SE trim, buyers will have the same color outside mirrors and door handles, a new detail that MSN says helps the Accent shake off "its predecessor's 'cheap car' look."

Motor Week says the GLS sedan exudes a "smart, stylish look," and highlights the chrome-accented grille, aerodynamic headlights, roof-mounted antenna and "smoothly integrated" taillights as design elements that give the Accent "a substantial presence."
