Hyundai Azera Safety Review

Safety - 8.0 (Very Good)

The Azera has a comprehensive list of standard safety features which the Washington Post calls "impressive." The 2007 Hyundai Azera scored four out of five stars in government frontal-impact crash tests and received five out of five stars in side-impact crash testing.

In addition, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tests rated the Azera a top score of "good" for passenger protection in frontal offset crashes and "Acceptable" in side-impact testing.

Accident Avoidance

Every Azera is equipped with Electronic Stability Control, which helps keep the vehicle on its intended course. Electronic Stability Control also includes a Traction Control System, reducing wheel spin on slippery surfaces. The San Francisco Chronicle calls these two features "potential lifesavers," and good standard equipment. The Anti-lock Braking System featured on the Azera, is equipped with four-wheel disc brakes and Electronic Brake Force Distribution. The Azera interior has active head restraints, which are designed to help protect the front occupants from whiplash in a rear collision.

Crash Protection

The Azera has the expected safety features such as a body structure featuring front and rear crumple zones, bodyside reinforcements and energy-absorbing steering column to help protect passengers in event of an impact. In addition, the Azera is amazingly active in its occupant protection, equipped with two advanced front air bags, two front seat-mounted side-impact air bags, two rear seat-mounted side-impact air bags and two roof-mounted curtain side-impact air bags. CNET notes with an apparent smile that the Azera is "well covered by air bags."
