2007 Hyundai Entourage Safety Review [ 2008 ]
Hyundai Entourage Safety Review
Safety - 9.8 (Excellent)
The 2007 Hyundai Entourage is generally regarded as very safe by auto reviewers. Not only does it feature more standard safety equipment than most cars, it also receives excellent scores in government crash tests. In fact, the Entourage's safety scores are so impressive that the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety named it a "Top Safety Pick."
The Detroit News says, "In the area of safety alone, it's a leader, better than the Sienna and right up there with the Odyssey." Automobile.com similarly reports "To use a bowling term, Hyundai has scored a 'strike' in safety, missing nothing in its pursuit to make the Entourage a safety leader among minivans. They have even included active front-seat head restraints as standard equipment across the board, something other minivan manufacturers have yet to do."
Accident Avoidance
The Entourage's long list of standard accident avoidance equipment includes electronic stability control (to reduce understeer and oversteer), traction control (to reduce wheel spin under acceleration), anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brake Force Distribution, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Cars.com notes, "The Entourage's stability system is another critical, high-value standard feature that -- when offered in other vans -- is often optional."
Crash Protection
Standard crash protection features include six air bags -- two advanced front air bags, two front seat-mounted side-impact air bags, and two side-curtain air bags for front and outboard rear passengers. Active front head restraints provide extra protection against whiplash in rear-end collisions. Autobytel says that just the side-curtain air bags and traction control "can make any car significantly safer to drive."
The federal government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the 2007 model a perfect 5-star safety rating for the driver and passenger in frontal crash tests, and 5-star ratings for both the front and rear seat passenger protection in side crashes. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives the 2007 Entourage perfect ratings all around, with scores of "good" for both frontal offset and side impact tests. It named the Entourage a "Top Safety Pick" for its good performance in front, side and rear tests and for its standard electronic stability control. In fact, the Entourage and its platform-mate, the Kia Sedona, are the only minivans to make the list.
