2007 Hyundai Sonata Reliability Review [ 2009 , 2008 ]
Reliability
The 2007 Hyundai Sonata reliability score of 6.0 out of 10 is the Predicted Reliability rating provided by J.D. Power and Associates. This score is based on trending the past three years of historical initial quality and dependability data from J.D. Power's automotive studies, specifically the Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) and the Initial Quality Study (IQS).
The 2007 Hyundai Sonata comes with an impressive five-year/60,000 mile new vehicle limited warranty. Hyundai also offers a ten-year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty and a five- year/unlimited mile road-side assistance plan. According to the Los Angeles Times, such an all-inclusive guarantee "provides buyers inestimable peace of mind."
Hyundai first introduced the Sonata in 1989. Since then, its aim has been to overcome leaders in its class -- namely the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Unfortunately, it's been plagued by a reputation for manufacturing low-quality automobiles. However, many generally agree that Hyundai's past reputation for manufacturing low-quality vehicles appears to be over. "It's no longer embarrassing to own a Hyundai," says U.S. News reviewer Rick Newman.
Given reviewers' new found respect for the 2007 Sonata's upgraded build-quality, it's safe to say that such a reputation no longer holds merit. "Anybody following the car biz knows that the Korean automaker has made big strides in recent years, evolving from a low-budget, low-quality bottom feeder into a manufacturer of stylish, respectable familymobiles," says U.S. News' Rick Newman. Edmunds agrees, "Although Hyundai's early days in the U.S. saw the company struggle due to subpar performance and overall quality, the company has reinvented itself within the last decade."
