Hyundai Tiburon

Overall Score - 7.5 (Good)

The Tiburon delivers a sporty ride wrapped in an attractive package, but it can't match the interior accommodations of others in its class. If you're in the market for a sports car, also consider the Honda S2000.

Reviewers find the 2007 Hyundai Tiburon to be a good-looking car with sporty performance and a reasonable price tag. Car and Driver calls it a "composed commuter, an accomplished tourer, and an acceptably sporty back-roads burner." More than anything, however, it looks great. USA TODAY writes, "It's a head-turner with gotta-have appeal." The Tiburon's combination of performance and features surprise many reviewers who seem to expect less from a car at this price "What a swell car," says the Los Angeles Times. "With all of its attributes, and a price that will make many skeptics suspend their disbelief, the Tiburon looks to be a shoo-in on some 'best of' lists."

While it may not top such lists, the Tiburon does garner a great deal of praise from reviewers who think it offers impressive bang for the buck. Automobile Magazine asserts, "This coupe looks champagne expensive with a beer-bottle price tag." Consumer Guide isn't blown away, but nevertheless finds a lot to like, writing: "It's not that quick or refined even with the V6, and the basic design is aging, but Tiburon is a solid, capable sporty coupe. Budget-friendly prices and Hyundai's long warranties make it a good alternative to the Scion tC or a high-line Honda Civic coupe." Value ratings from IntelliChoice depend on trim level, and range from "Poor" to "Worse Than Average."

The Tiburon is available in GS, GT, GT Limited and SE trim levels.

Tiburon Performance - 7.1 (Good)

The Tiburon, reviewers find, provides sporty and responsive performance, especially with the optional V6 engine. Kelley Blue Book is representative of the consensus when it writes, "The new Tiburon excels in providing the driver with an exhilarating, exuberant ride." continue

Tiburon Exterior - 8.0 (Very Good)

The Tiburon's exterior styling -- tweaked a bit for 2007 -- is its greatest asset, according to reviewers. Automobile Magazine asserts that the Tiburon "would continue to find buyers if it were powered by a hamster under the hood, simply because it looks like it should cost twice as much as it does." continue

Tiburon Interior - 6.5 (Mediocre)

The Tiburon's interior is reasonably accommodating and comfortable, at least for most front-seat passengers. "From behind the wheel, the Tiburon looks and feels terrific," says the Detroit News, while at the same time observing that it's "clearly a car built for a driver and perhaps one passenger." continue

Tiburon Safety - 8.8 (Very Good)

The Tiburon scores well in government crash tests. It receives 5 of 5 stars for driver protection and 4 of 5 stars for front passenger protection in frontal crash tests, and receives 4 of 5 stars for front-seat occupant protection in side impact tests. continue

Tiburon Reliability - 6.0 (Mediocre)

The 2007 Hyundai Tiburon reliability score shown is the Predicted Reliability rating provided by J.D. Power and Associates. This score is based on trending the past three years of historical initial quality and dependability data from J.D. Power's automotive studies, specifically the Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) and the Initial Quality Study (IQS).
