Hyundai Tucson Safety Review
Safety - 6.9 (Mediocre)
The 2007 Hyundai Tucson comes equipped with plenty of safety devices, and critics have noticed. As The Car Connection explains, "Where the Tucson shows strongest feature-wise is in the safety department." The Tucson receives respectable (though not perfect) ratings in government and insurance industry crash tests.
Accident Avoidance
The Tucson has four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Electronic Brake Force Distribution and Brake Assist, a tire pressure monitoring system (standard on the SE and Limited) and Electronic Stability Control with Traction Control System.
Crash Protection
The 2007 Hyundai Tucson receives 5 stars (out of 5) from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in frontal and side impact crash tests and 4 out of 5 stars in rollover tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives it a rating of "Acceptable" (second-best rating) for its frontal-crash and side-crash tests.
The Tucson comes equipped with an impressive roster of air bags: dual front air bags, front seat-mounted side-impact air bags and front and rear roof-mounted side-curtain air bags along with seat belt pretensioners. Hyundai also explains that "for added protection, each door is reinforced with side-impact door beams, and the unibody construction is engineered with high-tensile steel for optimum structural integrity."
