Infiniti FX Safety Review

Safety - 9.3 (Excellent)

The 2007 Infiniti FX has a number of innovative safety features, but many of them are optional with the extra-cost Technology Package. Regardless, the Chicago Sun-Times observes that "Infiniti hasn't stinted on safety" and other reviewers agree.

In government crash tests, the 2007 Infiniti FX earned a perfect 5 out of 5 stars in frontal and side crashes for both the driver and passenger and front and rear seats. It earned a rollover rating of 4 out of 5 stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the FX its top crashworthiness rating of "good" as well.

Accident Avoidance

Standard accident avoidance features on all models of the Infiniti FX include electronic brake force distribution, brake assist, four-wheel anti-lock braking system, vehicle dynamic control, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a traction control system. But there are also a number of innovative safety features available with the extra-cost Technology Package. These include Preview Breaking, which pre-pressurizes the brakes if it senses that the vehicle is rapidly approaching another object. This can make an important fraction-of-a-second difference in braking time.

There's also a Lane Departure Warning System, which can tell if the FX is drifting into another lane without the driver realizing it. This feature can be turned off simply by activating the turn signal. Other options include Run-Flat tires, which can continue working for about 50 miles after being punctured, come standard with this package. This is useful if you don't want to get out and change the tire on the spot, but you'll need to have someone change it for you as soon as possible.

Crash Protection

Standard crash protection features include dual-stage front airbags, front side-impact airbags, full-cabin curtain-style airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, and front and rear head restraints for all occupant positions.
