Infiniti G

Overall Score - 8.8 (Very Good)

The 2007 Infiniti G35 offers a pleasing blend of sporty performance, luxury and value.

One of 11 finalists for the 2007 North American Car of the Year Award, a member of Car and Driver's 2007 10 Best List and the winner of Automobile Magazine's 2007 All-Star Award, the 2007 Infiniti G gathers rave reviews from critics and dirty looks from BMW, which finds itself with a strong competitor in the high-end sport sedan market. New Car Test Drive sums up the G best: "Clearly, Infiniti has now set its sights on BMW, long touted as the ultimate driving machine. The 2007 G35 sedan is loosening BMW's grip on that crown ... For people wanting a sports sedan that's as accommodating of its passengers as it is rewarding for its driver, the new G35 is hard to beat."

Car and Driver says, on the G, "the most attractive elements will be the numbers on the window stickers." The base price on either the coupe or the sedan is well under the base price of BMW's 335i while delivering comparable performance. "Infiniti probably could charge more for the car if it had a more upscale nameplate," says MSN. The Washington Post adds, "Considering the total G35 package -- equipment, performance, pricing -- I'd be less inclined to shop BMW and more willing to shop Infiniti." IntelliChoice rates the G as a "better than average" value based on a predicted five-year total cost of ownership, compared with others in its class.

The G is available as a coupe and a sedan. The sedan and has five available G35 trim levels and the coupe has two available G35 trim levels. For the 2008 model year, Infiniti will introduce the G37, a restyled G Coupe.
