Infiniti QX56 Safety Review
Safety - NA
The 2007 Infiniti QX56 is equipped with many of the same safety features as others in its class. The Detroit News finds, "Infiniti did a good job on the QX56's safety features," and government crash tests bear this out. The QX56 received four of five and five of five stars for driver and front passenger protection, respectively, on frontal crash tests.
The QX56 received only a three out of five star rollover rating, however, and has not yet been put through side-impact crash tests.
Accident Avoidance
Standard on the 2007 QX56 are anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist. These, along with a stability control system, "contribute to a safe, confident ride," says About.com: Autos, "but with this much mass on the road, you need to be conscious of increased stopping distances." The optional all-wheel drive system also helps to maintain grip on slippery surfaces. A rearview camera protects against accidents in while backing up and a tire pressure monitoring system helps the driver keep tabs on any issues that might develop in the tires.
Crash Protection
The QX56 comes equipped with dual-stage front air bags, side-impact air bags, and curtain air bags, as well as a passenger-classification sensor. The Auto Channel reports, "The QX56 design also includes Zone Body construction with front and rear crushable zones." These technologies helped the QX56 earn four out of five stars and five out of five stars for driver and front passenger protection, respectively, in frontal crash tests conducted by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.
