2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee [ 2008 ]
Jeep Grand Cherokee
Overall Score - 7.8 (Good)
While the Grand Cherokee is an attractive SUV with great off-road capabilities, it is hampered by an uncomfortable rear seat and questionable value. If you're in the market for an affordable midsize SUV, you should also consider the Honda Pilot or GMC Acadia.
Reviewers agree that the Grand Cherokee has excellent off-road prowess. Edmunds says, "Building rugged vehicles is what Jeep does best, and since its introduction in 1993, the Grand Cherokee has always been the best off-roader in the midsize SUV class." It has a large selection of engines, including V6, V8 and fuel-efficient diesel models, and decent highway and parking lot handling. "If you like the idea of owning a rugged SUV that offers a luxurious interior, lots of power and doesn't fill your entire garage," writes Kelley Blue Book, "the Grand Cherokee should be at the top of your shopping list."
Kelley Blue Book says the "Jeep Grand Cherokee is projected to retain an average value over five years, with the V6 model losing more of its value than the V8. The Grand Cherokee's projected 24-, 36-, 48-, and 60-month residual values are better than the Nissan Pathfinder, on par with the Chevrolet TrailBlazer and well below the Toyota 4Runner." For the base model, IntelliChoice projects a "worse than average" value rating for the potential five-year total cost of ownership, compared to other vehicles in its class.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee has four main available trims: the base Laredo, the Limited, the Overland and the SRT-8. All are available as a 4X2 or as a 4X4, with the exception of the SRT-8 which comes exclusively as a 4X4.
