The 2007 Kia Sportage reliability score of 9.0 out of 10 is the Predicted Reliability rating provided by J.D. Power and Associates. This score is based on trending the past three years of historical initial quality and dependability data from J.D. Power's automotive studies, specifically the Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) and the Initial Quality Study (IQS).
Similar to Hyundai, Kia offers class-leading coverage, including a five-year/60,000-mile limited basic warranty. Kia also supports the Sportage with an impressive 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty.
U.S. News reviewer Rick Newman writes that the Tucson and Sportage are "solid vehicles worthy of consideration by mainstream buyers, a view backed up by the Koreans' rise in J.D. Power surveys and other measures of quality."
A number of other reviewers agree with this sentiment, noting the Sportage's improved reliability ratings. However, there were also those, such as the reviewer at MSN, who says, "My test Sportages felt tight, but long-term reliability and resale value remain question marks, compared to established, highly rated competitors such as the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape and Jeep Liberty."
