Land Rover LR3 Exterior Review

Exterior - 8.4 (Very Good)

While some reviewers criticize the Land Rover LR3 for copying a number of styling elements from its higher-end older brother, the Range Rover, most others seem altogether pleased with its design.

"We feel it looks like the front of a cheap Range Rover knockoff fused to the rear of a Dodge Sprinter delivery van. The flat, square design simply isn't executed quite as well as its older Range Rover sibling," says Automobile Magazine. The Los Angeles Times agrees, adding, "I'm not sure I can endorse the rest of the vehicle, which looks like a large gourmet freezer to me."

Nevertheless, most others are generally impressed. "The Land Rover LR3 presents a contemporary design, but one that still conveys a sense of functionality," says New Car Test Drive. Car and Driver adds, "Its classic Rover look is clean and simple." Kelley Blue Book explains, "Viewed from the front, you'd be forgiven for mistaking the new LR3 for its big brother, the Range Rover. The LR3 carries the extreme geometric styling all the way down the sides and around the back, and also carries a few details from the former Discovery model it replaced." The Orlando Sentinel sums it up best, "The LR3 emerges as one of the sharpest-looking SUVs on or off the road. A box it remains, but it is a classier box." Automobile.com adds that "its tall, clean lines, utilitarian for sure, are oh so chic in an industrial design sort of way."

Exterior Trims

V6 SE

Standard exterior features on the LR3 V6 SE include an asymmetrical tailgate designed for easy access to both rear and roof cargo room, a stepped roofline which allows for stadium seating in the inner cabin, side air-induction vents, integrated roof rails, sunroof, tinted windows, heated tailgate window and side mirrors, as well as 18-in aluminum-alloy wheels.

Available for all LR3 trims is Land Rover's "Cold Climate Package" -- which includes a heated windshield and washer jets.

V8 SE

Exterior features on the V8 SE are similar to that of the V6 SE. Additional optional features for the V8 SE include Bi-Xenon headlights and Front Park Distance Control (PDC).

V8 HSE

Additional standard exterior features on the V8 HSE include 19-in aluminum-alloy wheels and Bi-Xenon headlights. Included with the Land Rover LR3 V8 HSE's "Luxury Package" is an adaptive front-lighting system.
