Land Rover LR3 Safety Review

Safety - NA

Writers are generally impressed with the 2007 LR3's long list of standard safety features. While Car and Driver says that it's "comprehensively equipped," Edmunds boasts that "Land Rover also went all-out with the safety features." Government crash tests have yet to be conducted on this vehicle.

Accident Avoidance

New Car Test Drive brags that "an array of electronic systems help the driver to better control the vehicle in emergency stopping and handling situations." Every 2007 Land Rover LR3 comes outfitted with a four-channel, four-wheel, all-terrain Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Active Roll Mitigation (ARM), electronic Parking Brake (EPB), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), and Cornering Brake Control (CBC). Moreover, a vehicle security system with perimetric protection, keyless entry, Front Park Distance Control (PDC), and child locks for rear windows/doors help to ensure that accidents are avoided.

Crash Protection

In the event that an accident does occur, the Land Rover LR3 comes competitively equipped with a long list of crash protection goodies. Standard features include six air bags (first row driver and passenger front, side and head curtain air bags, as well as second row head curtain airbags), side-door impact beams, front and rear crumple zones, collapsible steering column, seat belts for all seating positions, head restraints for all outboard seating positions, Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system, as well as a collision-activated inertia switch -- which unlocks doors, turns off the fuel pump, and turns on hazard lights upon impact. While third row air bags come standard on V8 trim-levels, they're only optional for the V6 SE, and are included in Land Rover's "Rear Seat and Climate Package."

The federal government and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have yet to rate the Land Rover LR3.
