Land Rover Range Rover Sport Safety Review

Safety - NA

Although crash test data is not available from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or from government crash testing, the Range Rover Sport's list of standard safety features is comprehensive and competitive in its class.

CNET points out, for instance, that the Range Rover Sport is "packed with a range of active and passive safety features." These include dynamic stability control, electronic traction control, and roll mitigation systems, as well as six standard airbags.

Accident Avoidance

The Sport comes standard with dynamic stability control, which moderates engine power and braking to help maintain control when a loss of lateral grip is detected. Four-wheel electronic traction control detects wheel spinning and applies brakes as necessary, while active roll mitigation helps prevent tips by braking when the SUV becomes light on one side.

The Dynamic Response suspension system, by controlling front and rear anti-roll bars, minimizes body roll, making travel safer in less-than-optimal conditions. However, this system is only standard on the Supercharged. A Dynamic Response Package, which includes the Dynamic Response suspension system and Brembo front brakes, can be added to the HSE.

Crash Protection

Six airbags, including standard side curtain airbags in the front and back, protect passengers. In the event of a crash, the steering shaft is designed to collapse, while an inertia switch will automatically unlock doors, turn off the fuel pump, and turn on the hazard lights.
