Lincoln MKX Exterior Review
Exterior - 8.1 (Very Good)
For its exterior, the 2007 Lincoln MKX earns praise from reviewers. Motor Week notes that the "MKX looks solid too, thanks to a smooth, wide stance lifted almost lock, stock and fender flares from last year's Lincoln Aviator concept." Similarly, Kelley Blue Book refers to the styling as a "handsome look."
Forbes calls the Lincoln MKX a "Lexus RX 350 on steroids" for its similar exterior styling. Main features include the heritage Lincoln chrome grille, a steeply sloped windshield, large wraparound taillights in the rear, and standard 18-inch alloy wheels. Despite these touches of distinction, a minority of reviewers feel the styling is rather nondescript. "It's more a point of fact than a criticism to say the MKX looks a lot like all the other vehicles in its class," states Cars.com.
But others, like theWashington Post, praise the vehicle's head-turning quotient. "The MKX is stunningly beautiful inside and out. Its dramatic wraparound rear lights attracted favorable attention all over the great state of Virginia," the reviewer says. MSN agrees, noting, "I have to say, in all black the MKX does make for a very sexy package, a sort of minimalist urban bling. In fact, my test car drew an uncommon number of stares and -- in New Jersey -- a few people even rolled down their windows me to ask about it."
The large chrome grille invites mixed opinions from reviewers. Cars.com calls it "a polarizing element -- and I'm starting to wish I had a gallon of gas for each time I've said that about a grille recently ... There was a time when chrome was king of the road, but that was chromed metal. The MKX grille appears to be chromed plastic, something people are quick to criticize." In a different take, Forbes says, "The egg-crate grille is an echo of the 1963 Continental; very American, very big and shiny. It's attractive, if that's your taste." Another plus, as Cars.com points out, is that "What you see on the MKX's exterior is what you get" -- meaning the only available option is the addition of chrome versions of the standard 18-inch eight-spoke wheels, available with the pricey Ultimate Package.
