Lincoln Town Car Exterior Review
Exterior - 7.7 (Good)
Auto writers have mixed feelings on the 2007 Lincoln Town Car's recent styling changes, which date back to cues of the sedan's past. "The Town Car doesn't stand out in a crowd and probably won't turn many heads," says Kelley Blue Book.
Even in its earliest days, Lincoln's longest-selling vehicle featured classic, old-school styling. In recent years (starting in 2003), the manufacturer has made changes that are very similar to those early years. These include a bold waterfall-style grille and subtly redesigned hood, a squared-off body, larger rear taillights with embedded Lincoln logo, and a classic stand-up hood ornament.
Not only does the addition of the star hood ornament add to the Town Car's classic feel, but it can also assist drivers. According to Auto Mall USA, "Lincoln said many customers asked for the upright emblem to return because they can use it as a lane marker on the road and it also helps them better locate the front of the car's long hood when parking." Seventeen-inch wheels and Michelin tires are standard on the Town Car. The upgraded Signature Limited models feature upscale 10-spoke machined-aluminum wheels.
Kelley Blue Book says the updated exterior delivers mixed results: "The rear treatment looks great, but the new grille and front headlamps could easily be mistaken for a Mercury Grand Marquis." Others feel differently, with a minority asserting that the formal styling makes the 2007 Lincoln Town Car stand out. "It has some of the visual impact of the top 1930s luxury cars because of its slick styling and large size," comments MSN. Still other reviewers argue that the newer styling makes almost no difference at all. AutoWeek comments, "Exterior changes are so subtle, it may be difficult to convince previous-generation owners they need an upgrade." In an article on limousine travel, the Chicago Tribune appropriately sums up the Town Car's styling, commenting, "The Town Car is great for getting to and from the airport and not looking like you're in a rock band."
