Mercury Montego Exterior Review

Exterior - 6.6 (Mediocre)

The Montego's safe, understated exterior is refined to some but unremarkable to the majority of reviewers. AutoWeek says, "I think this is a good-looking sedan. Nothing too fancy." Newsday points out that "some critics have described the styling as too conservative" and contends that the "Montego's high seating position, high stance and high roofline might be partly to blame for giving the car a chunky rather than streamlined look." The Montego debuted in 2005 and its exterior hasn't changed much since then.

About.com says, "It's a very conservative shape marked by forgettable details." Some reviewers, however, like the exterior's simplicity. The Kansas City Star notes, "The Montego's clean, conservative styling mirrors the simplicity that has been popularized by European brands such as Audi and Volkswagen." The Montego is styled similarly to the Ford Five Hundred, with which it shares its basic engineering and a number of features. MSN points out some exterior differences: "The smoothly styled Montego looks more distinctive than the Five Hundred. Its stronger looking 'waterfall' grille with vertical bars gives it a more substantial look and it has different taillights, additional equipment and a more upscale two-tone interior."
