Mitsubishi Galant Safety Review
Safety - NA
Government crash test results have not been published for the 2007 Galant. But the 2006 Galant received an outstanding 5 stars out of 5 in all government front and side impact tests.
Reviewers generally agree the 2007 Galant has an impressive list of standard safety features, but receives average safety reviews for its lack of Electronic Stability Control. About.com says the vehicle comes loaded with standard safety features: front seat torso and two-row side-curtain air bags, stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, and tire pressure monitoring system. "Electronic stability control, however, isn't available," they say.
Accident Avoidance
The Galant features rack-and-pinion steering, ventilated front disc brakes and solid rear disc brakes. Antilock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) is standard on all models but the DE model. GTS and Ralliart models feature Traction Control (TCL).
Crash Protection
The 2007 Galant features advanced dual-stage front air bags with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) and passenger occupant sensors. There are also front seat-mounted side impact airbags, front and rear crumple zones, and front and rear side curtain airbags. Safety belts feature a three-point design. Child safety locks and a trunk entrapment release system are standard in every model.
The 2006 Galant received excellent safety ratings in government crash tests. The vehicle received 5 out of 5 stars for driver and passenger safety in front crashes and 5 out of 5 stars for front and rear safety in side crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives the 2007 Mitsubishi Galant a "good" rating, its highest, for performance in frontal offset and side impact crash tests.
