The 2007 Nissan Murano reliability score of 7.0 out of 10 is the Predicted Reliability rating provided by J.D. Power and Associates. This score is based on trending the past three years of historical initial quality and dependability data from J.D. Power's automotive studies, specifically the Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) and the Initial Quality Study (IQS).

Nissan backs up the 2007 Murano with a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty. In addition, the Murano comes with a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty and a five-year/unlimited-mileage corrosion warranty.

However, the Murano's reliability has been called into question because of recent defects. The Associated Press reports that Nissan recalled all optional intelligent keys for the 2006 model because the cars sometimes didn't start properly. "Occasionally, the engines start even when the ignition is turned off and the driver moves the steering wheel," the AP reports.

In addition, according to the Detroit Free Press, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation in 2005 into whether the fuel tank in the 2004-2005 Murano is susceptible to punctures from road debris during normal driving. The newspaper reports that NHTSA said it received four complaints of fuel tanks being punctured, leading to fuel leakage and the need for a replacement tank.
