Nissan Quest Safety Review

Safety - 8.6 (Very Good)

Overall, the 2007 Quest garners high scores for safety in both government and insurance crash tests.

The federal government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the Quest five out of five stars for both the driver and passenger in front and side impact tests, and four out of five stars for its rollover resistance. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives the 2007 Quest a "good" rating overall, but rates the Quest's rear protection in crashes as "poor."

Accident Avoidance

The 2007 Quest's windows assist in safe driving. Autosite.com enjoys "terrific" visibility, thanks to a "long" side glass, side mirrors that "appear ample," and an "enormous" windshield. Edmunds is also appreciative; noting that the windshield "makes for an expansive view out the front," while side mirrors "allow for confident lane changes."

However, Autosite.com also voices concern that the second-row seats can block the rear view from over the driver's right shoulder, and additionally, "outside, the beltline gradually rises, making it hard to see cars traveling next to the rear passenger side, while the driver's mirror allows for a blind spot when cars are close on the left."

All Quests have four-wheel vented disc, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution and Brake Assist. Drivers can add a rearview camera and other entertainment options with Nissan's Technology Package.

Crash Protection

Reviewers like Car and Driver report that the Quest includes "all the most important" crash protection features standard, including dual-stage front air bags as well as side-impact curtain air bags for front, second and third row outer passengers. Front seat belts have pretensioners and load limiters and there are active head restraints for front passenger and driver.

Only the 3.5 SE receives the driver and front passenger side-impact air bags standard, while the 3.5 SL has them as an option.
